On the 8th June 2004 the planet Venus passed directly between the Sun and the Earth. The event, known as a transit, is recorded in the pictures below.

Just after 06:30 B.S.T. (05:30 U.T.) Venus appeared as a small dark disk at the lower left of the Sun's disk.

Over the next six hours the planet slowly travelled across the face of the Sun.

Despite thickening cloud, the end of the transit was just visible at about 12:00 BST (11:00 UT).
